Brainerd lakes area artist Lily Atwel's mixed media works are on display through Jan. 31 in a new exhibit at Brainerd Public Library, 416 S. Fifth St., Brainerd.
The exhibit includes 10 pieces including painted fabric, fabric-as-paint, poured acrylic and collage.
Atwel's early education did not include art education. She developed some art techniques
while enrolled in an interior design program at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in
Australia. She also enjoys creating items from buttons, beads, fabric, discarded books and polymer clay, a news release stated. She is also interested in book binding.

Atwel is a member of several local art groups including the Brainerd Area Art Guild. Her
work has been displayed in numerous shows and at the Crow Wing County Community Services Building.
"How fortunate I am to live in the Brainerd area with the many chances to observe or participate in the arts and cultural experiences offered here," Atwel stated.
The exhibit is free of charge. Exhibits of work by local artists are coordinated by the Brainerd Area Art Guild and the Brainerd Public Library.
