Matt Stell of ‘Prayed For You’ performs at Lakes Jam

"If the only thing you’ve heard is ‘Prayed For You,’ you would have a different idea of who I really am,” Matt Stell said in his bio. “Knowing that you are making music that means something to people is the ultimate compliment, but there is so much more to me.”

Country music artist Matt Stell — who is joining Old Dominion and Toby Keith on tour this year — is also making a stop in the Brainerd lakes area.

Stell, with his new single “That Ain’t Me No More,” will perform at 6 p.m. June 26 on Lakes Jam’s Bud Light Main Stage at Brainerd International Raceway, north of Brainerd on Highway 371.

Lakes Jam is an outdoor music festival that combines country and rock with premier camping. This year’s event will be presented by Farm Bureau Financial Services. The artists will perform on the Bud Light Main Stage June 24-26, with gates opening at 4 p.m. each day.

“That Ain’t Me No More,” follows a troubled past, turning over a new leaf and coming to terms with the fact that Stell’s character’s ex-girlfriend moved on to someone new, Stell’s bio stated.

Stell, a 6-foot, 7-inch tall Arkansas native, is the eighth new artist to have back and back No. 1 singles in the past six years. The artist, who is a self-taught guitar player, has more than 415 million cumulative streams across his catalog to date.

Stell’s new “Better Than That” extended play is out and includes eight tracks, five in which he wrote, including “Prayed For You” which spent two weeks at the No. 1 spot and his Gold-certified No. 1 single “Everywhere But On.”

“If the only thing you’ve heard is ‘Prayed For You,’ you would have a different idea of who I really am,” Stell said in his bio. “Knowing that you are making music that means something to people is the ultimate compliment, but there is so much more to me.”

The country singer also recently released, “If I Was A Bar,” and its music video filmed during quarantine, where Stell played all 13 characters in a three-plus minute song, the bio stated.

“I threw every stitch of clothing I have ever owned into my truck for that video shoot,” Stell stated. “Sometimes creativity benefits from constraints.”

The artist was chosen as one of five performers at Country Radio Seminar 2021 New Faces of Country Music. He also appeared on “Good Morning America” and “Bachelor in Paradise” and sang the National Anthem for the National Football League and NASCAR.

Stell chose his music path over going to medical school, after being accepted into Harvard University’s Extension School pre-med program.
