Performing a catalog of songs from music that never goes out of style, "Masters of Soul: A Motown Revue" will perform 7:30 p.m. March 22 at Tornstrom Auditorium and will be presented by the Central Lakes Community Performing Arts Center as part of its Cultural Arts Series.
Series producer Patrick Spradlin called this one of the more anticipated shows of the year. "Not only is the sound of Motown known to virtually everyone, we've had some recent unfortunate losses from that genre of music," he stated in a news release.
Most notably, Spradlin noted the passing of Aretha Franklin as a tremendous loss to the music world. "The music of Motown, and of soul in general, is a wonderful part of our country's musical heritage. This show will bring that heritage to life."
The Masters of Soul consists of six vocalists, three men and three women, backed by a powerful four-piece band. Hailing from the East Coast, the group has been touring together for decades. They've played to sold-out audiences in venues across the country.
Audience members can expect to hear the music of Gladys Knight and the Pips, Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Barry White, Sam and Dave, James Brown and more.

"What I really liked about this show, when I saw them at a recent arts conference, is the full staging of the music," said Spradlin. "This show is fully costumed, fully choreographed. It is so true to the incredible stage performances of the artists they represent."
Tickets for Masters of Soul are available from the CLC Theatre Box Office at 218-855-8199 or online at www.clcperformingarts.com .
The show is sponsored by the Holiday Inn Express of Baxter. The season is made possible in part by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board operating grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
