NEW YORK MILLS — The Cultural Center in New York Mills Gallery is currently hosting the paintings of Duluth-based artist Moira Villiard in a show titled “The Rights of the Child."
This exhibit will run through Saturday, Oct. 10, with a closing reception from 1:30-3:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served and COVID-19 safety guidelines observed.
This is an exhibition of paintings and digitally designed posters by Villiard exploring the essence of childhood and children’s rights in modern times. Villiard’s work also calls attention to individual cognitive dissonance that occurs when people hold two contradictory beliefs about an issue or situation, a news release stated.
Villiard is a multidisciplinary visual artist working in a variety of artistic genres, including portraiture, illustration, graphic and digital design and as a muralist. She also is a community organizer, curator and passionate arts educator concentrating her efforts around issues of equity and justice including arts access — giving voice to underrepresented communities within the arts — creative placemaking, environmental sustainability, youth empowerment and acknowledgement of Indigenous land, culture and history. Villiard is a Fond du Lac Ojibwe direct descendent and grew up on the Fond du Lac Reservation in Cloquet.
The Cultural Center Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
