Reina del Cid to make concert series debut March 24

NISSWA-The Reina del Cid ensemble will make its Grassroots Concerts debut at 7:30 p.m. March 24 at the Live Well Nightclub and Coffee Bar, 5459 County Road 18, Nisswa, in the Journey Church next to the school.

Part singer songwriter group, part rock band, you can find Reina del Cid and company at the intersection of lyrical storytelling, catchy riffs and scorching solos.

After building a devoted online following as a solo artist, Del Cid teamed up with musicians Toni Lindgren, Zach Schmidt and Andrew Foreman to develop a sophisticated sound with broad appeal, drawing in mixed crowds from jam heads to college students to white-haired intelligentsia.

Reina del Cid, a Fargo native, and her band cut their teeth in 2013 with a weekly residency at the Amsterdam Bar and Hall in downtown St. Paul, which they held for nearly two years before moving on to tour nationally and release their 2015 album, "The Cooling."

Lead guitarist Toni Lindgren, a Wisconsin native, has been playing gigs since age 14. Combining Tony Rice-inspired flatpicking with a love for the smooth, flowing melodies of greats Jeff Beck and Roy Buchanan, Lindgren blends rootsy and emotive blues styles.

Bassist Andrew Foreman is from Portland. Drummer Zack Schmidt is from Bismarck.

In January 2016, Del Cid released a music video for the song "Death Cap," filmed in Iceland and directed by the band's longtime creative collaborator, Jason Ho. Their music has recently been featured by Paste Magazine, NPR and Baeble Music, and they plan to release their next full-length record in 2017.

Admission for general seating at all concerts is $10 at the door for adults and $5 for children under 12 with listening attention, when accompanied by an adult. At all shows, seating is first-come, first-served. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Grassroots performances are made possible in part by a grant from the Five Wings Arts Council with funding through the Minnesota State Legislature. The series is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

At each concert a nonperishable food or cash donation to a local food shelf is welcomed by volunteers who will deliver each gift.
