Brainerd resident Ron Anderson's first book titled "Quack The Lucky Duckling," is based on a true story inspired by his dog, Bud.

Anderson, who goes by Capt. Ron Anderson, wrote the book, published by Beaver's Pond Press of Edina this past spring. "Quack The Lucky Duckling" is about a dog, a duck and a hunter, who come together in a story of discovery and friendship.

Anderson said he never thought he would ever write a book, but one night he began writing some ideas down and thought "This isn't bad," he said.

"I got the idea from my dog," said Anderson. "It's a true story and he (the dog) was always doing goofy things and one day he came home with a duckling.

"Bud died a year ago. He was a half Labrador and half springer spaniel and I called him a Springador."

Anderson said there are so many children's books on the market and he wanted to do his book differently. He made his hardcover, glossy book into a book/coloring book, where children are able to color several pages in the book.

The book was illustrated by Peggy Anderson and the layout design was by Great Plains Graphics.

Books can be purchased at several locations in Brainerd, Pequot Lakes, Staples, Motley, Pillager, Crosby, Deerwood and Aitkin and can be found on Anderson's "Quack The Lucky Duckling" Facebook page. Anderson is donating $1 of the sales of each book to the Confidence Learning Center, a year-round outdoor center for persons with developmental disabilities.
