DEERWOOD — Ruttger’s Bay Lake Lodge, Deerwood, announced Tuesday, Aug. 18, to cancel its annual Oktoberfest celebration scheduled Oct. 16-18 due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

“With gatherings limited to a maximum of 250 people, we could find no way to provide an experience that would live up to the tradition of Ruttger’s Oktoberfest,” Ruttger’s President Chris Ruttger stated in a news release. “It’s a sad day, but we are confident that Oktoberfest will be bigger and better than ever when it returns in 2021.”

This year would have marked the 35th year the resort has hosted Oktoberfest — the traditional German festival that features live entertainment, authentic German food and drinks, an arts and crafts fair and more. Over the years, the celebration has grown into one of the biggest Oktoberfest celebrations in the state with thousands of attendees, the news release stated.

Though Oktoberfest is canceled, the resort will be open Oct. 15-18 and will host a Fall Family Fun Fest featuring hayrides, a farmer’s market, farm-to-fork meals, bonfires with s’mores and live music, sales, games and more.
