Sculptures and memorial bench to be dedicated at Brainerd Public Library

At 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, a brief ceremony will be held to dedicate new outdoor sculptures at the Brainerd Public Library. The public is invited and refreshments will be served.

Four kinetic wind sculptures, one nearly 20 feet tall, were installed earlier this spring by Minnesota artist Lynn Charls. Over the summer, thanks to the work of several volunteers, new landscaping was added around the sculptures.

Charls will be at the event, discussing her work and taking questions. The Brainerd Kinetic Wind Art project by Lynn M. Charls is supported by the city of Brainerd/Brainerd Public Library, Friends of the Brainerd Public Library, and was made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Five Wings Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

Another sculpture being dedicated on Saturday is a bronze bench in honor of longtime-Brainerd resident Ruth Gogolin who died last year. An active volunteer throughout the community, but especially with the library and the Friends of the Library, the bench is in recognition of Gogolin’s love of the library.

Each year the Brainerd Public Library circulates over a quarter-million books, DVDs and other materials to area residents, provides free computer access, and offers numerous programs and classes.
