Theresa M. Jarvela of "Tales of a Tenacious Housesitter" cozy mystery series will appear for two November events: from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Nov. 10 in the Author Talk event at Jessie F. Hallett Memorial Library in Crosby; and from 1-3 p.m. Nov. 13, a book signing, Book World in Baxter.


Empty Bowls fundraiser

Second annual Empty Bowls fundraiser, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, lower gym at the Franklin Arts Center. For a fully tax-deductible $20 cash donation at the door, guests will receive a meal of soup and bread and can choose a handmade bowl.

Haunted Village


Action Entertainment presents Haunted Village, an interactive theatrical production, opens at dark and runs till 10 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Oct. 31, The Crosslake Historic Log Village. Tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for children 16 and under.


Night of Fine Dining

A Night of Fine Dining, 6 p.m. Oct. 30, Ruby's Dining Room at Ruttger's Bay Lake Lodge. Cost is $40 for members of Unlimited Learning and $45 for non-members. Minnesota Author Sue Leaf, 7:30 p.m. today, Oct. 22 in the main gallery, Cultural Center. Cost is $5 for adults; children 16 and under are free.

Halloween events: The annual community Halloween party for area youth will be 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Cultural Center. Older youth Saturday will have a party at Mills Lanes. A party for fourth- through sixth-graders will be from 5-7 p.m., followed by a party for seventh- through 12th-graders from 7-9 p.m.

At 6 p.m. Oct. 30, the Cultural Center will host a Scary Movie Night in the main gallery.
