Minnesota Bluegrass band Sawtooth Brothers will kick off the Music in the Park Series at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at Northern Pacific Park in Staples. This is the first concert in the series which will run for six Sundays.

For the past 13 years, Sawtooth Brothers have been dazzling audiences with their precision picking and sharp harmonies, a news release stated. Having grown up together, the band members have created a musical rapport with one another, channelled through their infectious original material. Their sound is rooted in traditional bluegrass instrumental and harmony work and is influenced by modern acoustic sounds. Audience members can expect to hear creative original songs, hard driving bluegrass, classic country, gospel and classic rock. Tying it all together is the band’s ability to put on a good show.

According to Lillian Spearman, with The Local Current Blog, “Sawtooth Brothers are a band that will redefine your understanding of what bluegrass can be … The music they create is difficult to categorize: it transcends tradition. The songs are full of complex instrumental arrangements, meticulous harmonies and sophisticated lyrics.”

The Sawtooth Brothers have gained a reputation as sincere and hard-working professionals, a news release stated. They have performed at a variety of venues across the country and into Canada, including music halls, bandshells, caves and river boats.

Clint Birtzer, the band’s guitarist, has been named the Minnesota Flatpicking Guitar Champion in 2009, 2011 and 2013, as well as the 2015 Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America Midwest Guitar Performer of the Year. Fiddle player Luke Birtzer was the winner of the 2010 Bluegrass Idol Competition; and Blint Birtzer and fellow band member Jesse Moravec were winners of the 2011 Minnesota Duet Championship.
