Carla Benjamin is exhibiting regionally-inspired photo encaustic works through March at the Brainerd Public Library. Many artworks will be available for purchase with a portion of the sales benefitting the library.

“Original photos combined with paint containing beeswax, resin and pigment fill the exhibit space with enchanting and intimate views from our region,” according to Laurel Hall, branch manager.
A lifelong artist, Benjamin studied photo encaustic with Minnesota artist Jodi Reeb and continues a biweekly mentoring engagement with Reeb. Benjamin is a recipient of 2019 Individual Artist grant from Five Wings Art Council.
This project is made possible by a grant provided by Five Wings Arts Council with funds from the McKnight Foundation. In 2021, Benjamin received an Individual Creative Support grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board.

Crossing Arts Alliance

“Young At Art,” the Crossing Arts Alliance’s annual exhibition showcasing the work of students from local schools, is on display at the gallery once again.
“This lively exhibit is floor-to-ceiling color and exploration! This fun community exhibit gives young artists a chance to have their work exhibited in a ‘real gallery,’ and a special chance for art enthusiasts to show their support for our budding artists,” according to a news release.
The exhibition opens Friday, April 1, will be on display through April 30. Crossing Arts will be open until 6 p.m. on the first day of the exhibit and will be otherwise open during regular business hours.

The exhibition is funded, in part, by the voters of Minnesota through grants from Five Wings Arts Council and the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
Crossing Arts Alliance is a nonprofit located in the heart of downtown Brainerd at 711 Laurel St. Crossing Arts Alliance is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The Front Gallery of Great River Arts will feature the works of Tanya Piatz, with her exhibit “Species of Special Concern” starting Saturday, April 2.
Her images are intended “to raise awareness for habitat conservation and how the habitat directly impacts the diversity of species found in the environment.”
“I do this by illustrating birds that we see everyday as well as lesser known species found on the Minnesota's DNR's ‘Species of Special Concern’ list. I hope to raise awareness for the need of native habitat for the entire health of a community,” Piatz stated in a news release.

The New York Mills Regional Cultural Center presents “In Tandem” — new works by artists Nancy XiáoRong Valentine and Amanda Callahan — on display until Saturday, April 2.
This is an exhibition of two solo shows “in tandem” rather than two artists in a combined show. While each of the artist’s show statements are very different, they are complementary and have a through-line connection of encouraging patrons to turn inward for reflection, according to officials.
