Jorge in concert
World renowned violinist Jaime Jorge will be presenting a violin virtuoso concert at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Brainerd Seventh-day Adventist Church at 2910 Oak Street in Brainerd. The concert is free to the community and everyone is invited. Visit www.brainerdsda.org for the most current information.
Jorge was born and raised in communist Cuba where Cuban officials recognized his talent for violin. They offered him the opportunity to train in Moscow with some of the world’s master violinists. However, the terms they offered him he couldn’t accept - he would have to renounce God. At age 10 Jorge and his family escaped from Cuba and arrived in the United States with almost nothing. Today Jorge tours full-time around the world playing before kings and dignitaries as well as church congregations. His music has graced Carnegie Hall and high school auditoriums. He has played in 40 countries on five continents.
Minnesota Homefront, WWII exhibit

The Park United Methodist Seniors will be going by bus to “Minnesota Homefront, WWII,” a traveling exhibit of the Minnesota Historical Society, on display at Linden Hills in Little Falls on Monday. The exhibit explores the accomplishments, sacrifices, disappointments and challenges that shaped the enduring legacy of Minnesota’s Greatest Generation through their stories. Visitors will find out what it was like to “make-do” with rationing, to farm during a severe labor shortage, to work on the Iron Range, and to develop inventions for the war effort.
The bus will leave the parking lot of Park UMC at 10:30 a.m. and return about 3 p.m. The cost of the trip, which is open to the public, is $25, which covers the cost of bus, lunch and entrance fees. If interested in joining the group, call Park UMC at 829-4116 or call 829-4339 for reservations.
Brainerd Lakes Area Ministerial Association
On Tuesday, the Brainerd Lakes Area Ministerial Association will be meeting over breakfast at the Brainerd Lakes Cafe, 2115 South Sixth St., Brainerd, from 8-9 a.m. Our purpose for gathering will be to encourage, support and pray for one another. The fellowship together will allow us to get to know each other personally. This will produce the added benefits of mutual trust and respect among our colleagues. ‘Ready for a Change’ at Grace United
The congregation of Grace United Methodist Church will be exploring the theme “Ready for a Change” each Sunday morning at 9 a.m. during Lent. The concept of change and the change-making actions of Jesus will guide our spiritual journey. We will wrestle with our fear of change, the inevitability of change, the difficulty in changing, and the life-giving new lease on life and call to service that change can bring.

UCC adult forum
“The Defiant Requiem” is the topic for First Congregational United Church of Christ’s adult forum on Sunday after the 10 a.m. worship. Lisa Wigand will be the presenter.
During World War II, many Jewish artists and musicians were imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp near Prague called Terezin. One of them was a famous conductor named Rafael Schachter who smuggled one copy of the score of Verdi’s “Requiem” into the camp. There, he taught 150 of the prisoners this piece of music. The chorus learned it by rote and performed it 16 times during their internment. Their audiences included other prisoners, SS Officers and German army staff members. Their purpose was to sing to their captors the words they could not speak.

The 2012 Lenten services is focusing on the theme of “The Road To Recovery.” The six-week program will begin with a sermon on the given topic at the Holden Evening Prayer Service. A soup supper will be served by the Media Outreach Team. The supper begins at 5 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

On Sunday, First Lutheran Church in Brainerd will hold praise and worship services at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. The Sunday school students will share special music at the 10:30 a.m. service. Second Half Enrichment series
On Sunday from 2-4 p.m., the Second Half Enrichment Series (intended for adults 50+ years of age) will hold Event Two at First Lutheran Church, Brainerd. The event will feature the Rev. John Nunes, CEO and President of Lutheran World Relief, a global crisis agency. The Rev. Nunes is also the author of a children’s book entitled “Little Things Make Big Differences: A Story of Malaria.” Advance tickets are $10 and are currently on sale in the church office or will be available from 9-11 a.m. and 3-5 p.m. Saturday at the church. Personalities of the Passion
Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church’s message for Lenten services will be “Personalities of the Passion.” This week will feature Caiaphas, The Religious Formalist. Caiaphas was more concerned with the form of religion than its true substance. He was more concerned with power than service. He was concerned with status quo even at the expense of truth. On Wednesday, the evening starts with 5:30 p.m. soup and sandwich with worship at 7 p.m. and choir practice following. During the Sundays of Lent the message will be entitled “The Cross in the Theology of Paul.”
All-you-can-eat pasta dinner fundraiser
The youth of Bethlehem Lutheran Church will be having an all-you-can-eat pasta dinner fundraiser from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Chap. Cost: $8, adults; children 10 and under, $5. The youth will be attending the 2012 Youth Rally in New Orleans.
Brainerd LDS Ward hosts conference
The Brainerd Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will
host its annual conference at 10 a.m. Sunday. Leaders from the St. Cloud
Minnesota Stake of the Church will speak at the conference. All members of
the community interested in learning more about the gospel of Jesus Christ
are invited to attend the conference, which will be held at the meeting
house at 101 Buffalo Hills Lane W. A potluck dinner will follow the
meetings.
‘All Things New’ Easter presentation
Park United Methodist Seniors has a block of tickets for “All Things New,”
the Easter presentation of music and drama, featuring the last days of
Christ’s life, for the matinee on March 31. Following the matinee
presentation, dinner will be served. The public is invited to join the
group. The bus will leave Park UMC parking lot at 9:45 a.m. Reservations
must be in and paid for by March 8. Cost of the ticket is $55, which

World Day of Prayer service
PEQUOT LAKES - Our Savior’s Lutheran of Pequot Lakes will be hosting a World
Day of Prayer service at 10 a.m. March 2. St. Christopher’s Catholic Church
and Lutheran Church of the Cross, Nisswa, Pequot Lakes Baptist, Gloria Dei
Lutheran, Our Savior’s Lutheran and Grace United Methodist, Pequot Lakes,
will be participating in a program prepared for by the women of Malaysia.
Malaysia is this year’s featured country with the theme “Let Justice
Prevail.” The offering will be divided between the World Day of Prayer
effort and our local food shelf.
World Day of Prayer
March 2 is World Day of Prayer. World Day of Prayer is an annual, ecumenical
celebration of informed prayer. Women, men and children in more than 170
countries and regions will celebrate World Day of Prayer. The theme is “Let
Justice Prevail.” The prayer service was written by the women of Malaysia
for families worldwide and will be 1 p.m. March 2 at First Presbyterian
Church, 512 South Eighth St., Brainerd.
