Mark Durene to speak in Crosslake Saturday

CROSSLAKE -- Mark Durene, native of Little Falls, will be speaking at the Crosslake Christian Assembly of God Church at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 13.

A pizza and salad dinner will be served.

The Durenes serve in Thailand and are PenAsia area directors and lead the PenAsia Foundation, overseeing personnel and projects throughout five nations.

Zion's annual polka music service set

Zion's annual polka music service with Chuck Thiel and the Jolly Ramblers will be 5:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at 220 N. Eighth St., Brainerd.

A picnic meal of brats, burgers, baked beans, coleslaw, chips, and rootbeer floats will be served.

The Jolly Ramblers will provide additional music selections during the meal. This event is sponsored by Zion's LLL group. A freewill offering will be taken.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church events

Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 418 Eighth Ave. NE, Brainerd, will have a pick-up choir Sunday, July 14.

There will be a rehearsal of John Coates Jr.’s “Amazing Grace” from 8:25-8:50 a.m., and the piece will be sung at the 9 a.m. service.

Rehearsal will be on the sanctuary floor so no stairs are involved. Everyone is welcome to participate.

At 8:55 a.m., there will be a hymn sing before the start of service.

Twenty-one people will be commissioned during the service before they leave on the high school mission trip to Idaho.

This week at Trinity

This Sunday, July 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1420 S. Sixth St., Brainerd, will feature a special musical presentation by the Trinity bluegrass musicians featuring Bob and David Nibbe, Paola and Bud Sederquist, Owen Qualley and Randy Olson.

Pastor Hans Anderson will be preaching. Holy Communion will be served with a coffee hour following the service.

“Christmas in July” will continue with an opportunity for members to choose donations cards from the decorated tree in the lobby. Funds raised will go to further Trinity’s missions.

The Altius String Quartet will be performing at 2 p.m. in the Trinity sanctuary. This is part of the Lakes Area Music Festival Prelude Series. It is open to the public.

A Wednesday Evening Worship service is 6 p.m. The service is an informal 30-minute worship time with Holy Communion.

“Roar! Life is Wild, God is Good!” will be the theme for the 2019 Vacation Bible School program at Trinity Lutheran Church.

The week-long adventure is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon July 22-26. Pre-registrations are being accepted through July 21. There is a registration fee of $20 per child. Register prior to the event or the day of Bible school.

This epic African adventure engages the whole herd. At Roar, kids explore God’s goodness and celebrate a ferocious faith that powers them through this wild life.

The Bible-themed adventure program will have different activities for age groups 4 years of age through fifth grade. Kids will enjoy five mornings of Bible learning, sciencey-fun, games, Bible songs and tasty treats. Child care is available 7:30-9 a.m. to meet families’ schedule needs. Centering Prayer and Lectio Divina set

LITTLE FALLS -- The Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls invite the public to join them for Centering Prayer and Lectio Divina (Sacred Reading) 6-7 p.m. Thursday, July 18, in the Gathering Space at St. Francis Convent, Little Falls.

Centering Prayer is an ancient and contemporary way of prayer. In a small group, persons gather for 20-30 minutes to pray in quiet, listening with openness to God’s presence and action in our lives. Centering Prayer is experiencing a relationship with God as well as a discipline to foster that relationship. It is a movement beyond conversation with God to communion with God. That is followed by “Lectio Divina,” a reflection on the coming Sunday Scriptures.

Living Savior Church events planned

LAKE SHORE -- Living Savior Church is having its second summer concert 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 13, featuring a bluegrass gospel band, Churchyard.

This group was started in 2003 and consists of local members from around the area.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m., a freewill dinner of brats/hot dogs, beans, chips and a beverage will be served.

“Lava, Lava Island, Where Jesus’ Love Flows” vacation Bible school will be 5:30-7 p.m. Sunday, July 14 to Wednesday, July 17. A family dinner will be served each night at 5 p.m.

There will be games, Bible stories, snacks, crafts and music.

Bethel Lutheran Church events

Bethel Lutheran will celebrate the fifth Sunday of Pentecost during the 9 a.m. Sunday, July 14, worship service with Pastor Jeff Macejkovic delivering the message.

Coffee will be served in the fellowship hall following the service.

Bible study will continue at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The church council will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Sherry Depolis and Country Grass in concert

MALMO -- At 7 p.m. Saturday, July 13, Sherry Depolis and Country Grass will present a concert at the Malmo Evangelical Free Church.

Sherry and Country Grass are a group of yodelers, singers and songwriters who are committed to bringing the Gospel to life through music.

Bring a lawn chair for the outdoor concert. In case of rain or excessive heat the concert will be inside the air-conditioned church. Refreshments will be available and a freewill offering will be received.

Bazaar and bake sale planned at Our Savior’s

PEQUOT LAKES -- Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes will host a bazaar and bake sale 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, (Bean Hole Day) at the church, a half block west of the stoplights in Pequot Lakes.

Available at the bake sale will be homemade pie, coffee and fresh lefse among other items.
