Lord of Life adds six members to its Stephen Ministry program

BAXTER — There are now more people providing a listening ear and support to those in need through Lord of Life Lutheran Church of Baxter’s Stephen Ministry program.

At a worship service on Sept. 26, Bryan Barrer, James Caughey, Bonnie Henningson, Annadell Johnson, Hal Leland and Tim Slinger were commissioned as the newest class of Stephen Ministers at Lord of Life.

The job of a Stephen Minister is to work with people undergoing some sort of trauma in their life, whether it is the loss of a loved one, recovering from addiction, dealing with illness and much more. While Stephen Ministers do not take the place of professional counselors, they walk with their care receiver, listen to their story and encourage and support them.

This most recent class prepared for their new role through 50 hours of training from April to August.

Lord of Life Lutheran Church encourages anyone in need of a Stephen Minister to journey with them to contact Pastor Erika Nilsen.
