Some of the top-selling foods for the Super Bowl include pizza, chicken wings, pretzels, potato chips and dips.

These popular convenience foods, however, are packed with saturated fat and have excessive sodium. Fruits, vegetables, beans and whole grains are often missing from TV-watching buffets.

Essentia Health is offering a virtual cooking demonstration to patients and the public, free of charge, from 6 to 7 p.m. Jan. 26 to help plan a healthier alternative, such as a heart-healthy pizza and soup in time for the big game.

Recipes shared after the demonstration include Italian pizza, margarita pizza, Italian sausage with ground turkey, pizza sauce, pizza pasta soup, lower sodium potato chips, hummus dip, lower sodium nuts and a fruit tray.

Funded by Essentia Health Foundation’s Heltne Endowment, dedicated to the care of patients with heart failure, the event is perfect for anyone living with heart failure or interested in learning more about living a heart-healthy lifestyle.
