Due North to be in concert

MALMO -- Due North will present a concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at the Malmo Evangelical Free Church.

Due North has been singing and performing together for more than 25 years. Louise Wiermaa is from the Duluth area and plays rhythm guitar. Deb Tuominen is from the Tower area and plays standup bass.

In the last several years, Tedd Williams from Twig has performed with Due North. Along with his vocals, Williams plays the banjo, guitar and dobro.

Come as you are and bring a lawn chair. In case of rain or excessive heat the concert will be inside the air-conditioned church. Refreshments will be available and a freewill offering will be received.

This week at Trinity

This Sunday, July 21, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1420 S. Sixth St., Brainerd, will be “Now the Feast” Sunday with a special musical presentation by Julie Schreifels.

There is one service at 9 a.m. Pastor Hans Anderson will be preaching. Holy Communion will be served with a coffee hour following the service.

“Christmas in July” continues with an opportunity for members to choose donations cards from the decorated tree in the lobby. Funds raised will go to further Trinity’s missions.

Vacation Bible school begins Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. until noon. Register on the first day of VBS for those who didn’t pre-register.

Trinity families and friends will be serving the noon meal at the Sharing Bread Soup Kitchen.

A Wednesday Evening Worship service is 6 p.m. The service is an informal 30-minute worship time with Holy Communion.

Bethel Lutheran Church service set

Bethel Lutheran Church will welcome Ruth Jeremiason Jensen to lead the 9 a.m. worship service on the sixth Sunday of Pentecost, July 21.

Coffee fellowship will follow at 10 a.m.

Bible study will be 6:30 p.m. Monday at the church.

Concert and community picnic planned Aug. 1

EMILY -- Emily United Methodist Church again welcomes the Jumpin’ Jehosafats in concert 6 p.m. Aug. 1 following a 5 p.m. free community picnic in the church yard.

The public is invited to enjoy a spirit-filled evening of food and fellowship with friends. The Jumpin’ Jehosafats, together since 1985, have played more than 700 benefit concerts in the Midwest and Caribbean.

Proceeds from the freewill offering at this concert will benefit the Emily Food Shelf. To date, according to a press release, they have helped raise close to $500,000 for United Methodist-related ministries such as Operation Classroom, United Methodist Committee on Relief, and many other ecumenical causes such as Habitat for Humanity and disaster relief.

Bring a chair or blanket and bug repellent. Rain location will be indoors at Emily United Methodist Church.

Rhubarb festival set July 26-27

PINE RIVER -- Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pine River will celebrate its 11th annual rhubarb festival Friday and Saturday, July 26-27.

Pies will be sold 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 26 and 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 27. There will be 500 freshly baked and frozen rhubarb pies for sale for $12 a pie. Call 218-587-3874 to reserve a pie.

Also for sale will be rhubarb cookbooks, fresh rhubarb pies (old fashion, custard and strawberry rhubarb), mini pies, jams, jellies, baked goods, plants, craft items, fresh produce, handmade quilts, rhubarb slush, grandma's treasures from the garage, rhubarb leaf birdbaths, stepping stones and bird feeders and a lunch of pulled pork, rhubarb baked beans and coleslaw in a basket with a slice of pie and ice cream.

Vendor lots and tables are available for anyone who would like to rent space to sell items for $20 each.

Joint services planned

Swan Valley and Maple Hill (rural Pine River) are dual parishes so there will be a joint worship service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, July 21, at Maple Hill.

A potluck and joint council meeting will follow.

This is also the time rotation for Sunday services. Beginning July 28, Maple Hill will have a 9 a.m. service and Swan Valley will be 11 a.m. These start times will remain in place until mid-January when services are rotated again.

Rummage, quilt, bake sale set at Swan Valley Lutheran Church

MOTLEY -- Swan Valley Lutheran Church, 7548 State 64 SW, Motley, will have a church rummage, quilt and bake sale 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 25-26, and Aug. 2; and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 27 and Aug. 3.

The proceeds will go toward church building maintenance.

First Lutheran Church events

Game night at First Lutheran Church in Brainerd will be 6-9 p.m. Friday, July 26. Bring a game, a friend and a snack to share.

There will be a farewell reception honoring Pastor John and Sandy following his final service at First Lutheran 10 a.m. Sunday, July 21.

There will be a special blessing during the Sunday service for the youth mission trip to the Osage Nation in Oklahoma. They leave July 26.

Special Celebrate Recovery event planned

The Clark Family will be leading worship at a special Celebrate Recovery event at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, at the Community of Hope Church of the Nazarene, 16549 Johnson Road N., Brainerd.

The Clark Family will be sharing their testimony.
