Zarns speak at Crosslake Church

LITTLE FALLS -- Phil and Katja Zarns will speak at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at the Crosslake Christian Assembly of God Church, 13919 County Road 36, Crosslake.

The Zarns are missionaries in Sweden. Phil grew up in Little Falls and Katja is originally from Sweden.

First Lutheran Church events

On Saturday, Aug. 10, First Lutheran Church members will prepare and serve the meal at Sharing Bread Soup Kitchen.

Pastor Beth Pottratz will be the guest pastor at 9 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at First Lutheran Church, 424 S. Eighth St., Brainerd. The service will be ELW No. 6.

Pottratz is the spiritual care coordinator at Heartland Hospice in the Brainerd lakes area.

Marcus Aulie will be the worship leader. Callie Ehresman will provide special music on her violin.

Coffee hour will follow the service in Koinonia Hall.

Summer Sunday school will be from 9:15-10 a.m. in the nursery and Koinonia.

The Women of the ELCA will be hosting a Bible study 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14. Michelle Ruen will be the guest speaker. The study, on John 13: 1-13, will be an in-depth look at Jesus washing his disciples’ feet and how it applies to our life today.

Men’s breakfast/Bible study will be 7 a.m. Aug. 16 at Northwind Grille. Jerry Peterson will be the discussion leader.

Bethel Lutheran Church events

Bethel Lutheran will host a Creation Adventure for youths beginning 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, and ending 8 a.m. Saturday. The event will include creative activities, supper, a sleepover and breakfast. For more information or to register, contact Maureen at 218-838-3020.

On Sunday, Pastor Jeff Macejkovic will lead the 9 a.m. worship service and deliver the message. Coffee fellowship will follow at 10 a.m.

Monday evening Bible study will be 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

Guest speaker at Trinity Lutheran

The Rev. Bruce Miller from Deerwood will be the guest pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1420 S. Sixth St., Brainerd, 9 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 11.

Holy communion will be served. Coffee hour will follow the service.

The Wednesday evening service with Holy Communion begins at 6 p.m. The 30-minute service is informal with the Rev. Terry Frovik conducting the service.

New pastors at Emily United Methodist Church

EMILY -- Emily United Methodist Church recently welcomed new pastors Bethany and Luke Nelson, and their three sons, Calvin, Josiah and Desmond.

Their home is in Brainerd where they also serve Park United Methodist Church.

Malmo Evangelical Free Church to host nationally performing artists

MALMO -- Malmo Evangelical Free Church will host a concert featuring nationally touring band The Hainings 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10.

The Hainings are a team of professional entertainers, now based in Branson, Missouri, committed to preserving and perpetuating the great American tradition of acoustic music. With a variety ranging from country to folk/roots to bluegrass, their vocal harmonies and energetic performance style creates an experience for audiences of all ages.

Come as you are and bring a lawn chair to enjoy music in the outdoors. In case of rain or excessive heat the concert will be inside the air-conditioned church. Refreshments will be available and a free will offering will be received.

Ice cream and pie social set

An ice cream and pie social will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at Riverside Union Church, 3435 County Road 45, Brainerd.
