Human trafficking education workshop set in Emily

The United Methodist Church of Emily will host a human trafficking education workshop from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, led by Kate LePage of Lutheran Social Services.

This is another in a series of Emily area community educational events. The public is invited to this free event. Bring a friend or other adult family members.

This event is especially meant for parents as the school year begins. Sexual exploitation of youth is of special concern for every one of our local communities. Schools, law enforcement, social services agencies, medical and faith communities are all alert to this critical issue. There are many local resources available and ready to respond with counseling, health services and safe shelter where needed.

Education and prevention of human trafficking is an important issue for all of us, whether we have children at home or not.

The speaker will address the following questions: What does trafficking look like? Who are the individuals who are being victimized? What are the barriers victims face when trying to leave the life? How can I respond when I sense trafficking may be occurring?

The church is located across from the Emily Post Office near the intersection of Highway 6 and County Road 1.
