Former Brainerd Warriors pitcher Nick Anderson is in his second season in the major leagues as a relief pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays.
Anderson was needed to get the final out of the Rays’ 8-5 victory over the New York Mets Wednesday, Sept. 23.
With two out, and the Mets already scoring three runs in the ninth, Anderson entered to face Andres Gimenez. Anderson needed just three pitches for the strikeout and end the rally and the game.
In 18 appearances, Anderson is 1-1 with six holds and six saves and a 0.59 ERA. He’s allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits and two walks and has struck out 26 batters in 15.1 innings pitched.
The victory helped the Rays secure their first American League East title since 2010.
