100 year anniversary Celebration of Lions International

Lions Clubs of District 5M9 celebrated its 100 year anniversary of Lions International at Cragun's Resort last weekend with their Mid Winter Convention.

Lions Clubs of District 5M9 celebrated its 100 year anniversary of Lions International at Cragun's Resort last weekend with their Mid Winter Convention.

The district includes Baxter, Brainerd, Pillager, Nisswa and clubs in the counties in central Minnesota which also consists of 68 Lions, one Lioness and four Leos Clubs. District 5M9 Lions has clubs in Aitkin, Becker, Cass, Crow Wing, Hubbard, Ottertail, Northern Todd, Wadena and Wilkin counties.

There was close to 300 people in attendance for the weekend.

District Governor Dick Stebbins of Baxter Lions in a news release said he was proud of the members who worked on a variety of projects in the local community, such as playground equipment, school involvement and the backpack program and Kids against Hunger and veterans programs. Proceeds from past fundraising events have gone to scholarships and other causes to which the clubs have contributed.

Many of the Lions members attended seminars which included Can Do Canines, Minnesota Vision Foundation which included a cornea transplant recipient, Club tune-up, History of Lions and Taming Technology The Brainerd Leo's club sponsored a minion walk to raise money for the Diabetes foundation.

"We are proud of our Lions International 100 years of service and 40 years of service to the Baxter community," Stebbins said in the release. "The Lion club members thank everyone who contributes to this important work. You are truly helping Lions make a difference in our community."
