A late-night traffic stop in northeast Brainerd turned into chase with a driver police did not expect to find behind the wheel.
The Brainerd Police Department reported at 1:39 a.m. Thursday, a 13-year-old male driver fled police after an officer initiated a traffic stop at 11th Avenue Northeast and H Street Northeast. The juvenile then exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Brainerd police called the Baxter Police Department for assistance with a K-9 officer and his handler on the search. The Baxter K-9 officer, Gator, was able to locate the teen.
Officers arrested the 13-year-old for felony fleeing in a motor vehicle, fleeing on foot, theft of a motor vehicle and driving without a valid license.
A 12-year-old juvenile, a passenger in the vehicle, was cited for a curfew violation.
The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office also assisted with the search.
