THIEF RIVER FALLS - A 14-year-old boy died after being hit by a vehicle Monday evening in Thief River Falls.
Gannon Allen Hejlik, 14, was riding his bicycle through an intersection on the crosswalk when he was fatally struck by a truck driven by Tammy Martha Johnson, 52, Thief River Falls, according to a news release from the Thief River Falls Police Department.
No charges have been filed, and the case remains under investigation.
Initial media reports noted witnesses said Hejlik was playing a game on his phone at the time of the accident, but Thief River Falls Police Chief Dick Wittenberg could not confirm that Tuesday.
“That’s under investigation at this point,” Wittenberg said. “We have two cellphones that we have seized as evidence and we will have to investigate that further.”

Hejlik was taken by Thief River Falls Area Ambulance to Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls. He was later transported to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo. Hejlik died early Tuesday morning from his injuries.
