A 15-year-old boy driving a Volkswagen CC Sport led authorities on a pursuit during the early morning hours Sunday, Sept. 20, in Brainerd.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported the 15-year-old boy was driving with a 15-year-old girl as a passenger east on Highway 210/Washington Street in Brainerd. The boy lost control of the car, running it off the road and hitting a light pole, the report stated. The Volkswagen rolled down a hill landing on its roof.

The boy was not injured and the girl was taken to Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd for possible injuries. Both were wearing their seat belts and the airbag did deploy, the state patrol reported.

The Brainerd Police Department and North Memorial Health Ambulance assisted the state patrol at the crash, which was reported at 2:08 a.m. near Kingwood Street.

Brainerd police reported the crash is under investigation and possible criminal charges — criminal vehicle operation, fleeing a peace officer in a vehicle, leaving the scene of a crash, underage drinking and driving, reckless driving, driving without a license and speeding — are being prepared against the driver to be forwarded to the city prosecutor’s office.
