A 45-year-old Brainerd man faces two felony charges following a Sunday attempted burglary at a residence on Brayton Road, near Garrison; while a 45-year-old Garrison man-who helped the Brainerd man with a ride-faces drug charges.
Jason Scott Langerman had his first appearance Tuesday where he was charged with second-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools. His next court hearing is scheduled June 26.
According to the probable cause statement filed against Langerman, Crow Wing County Sheriff deputies responded Sunday to burglary in progress at a residence on Brayton Road. At the residence deputies met with the homeowner's brother, who was checking the property and observed a man and woman on the property when he arrived. He asked the man, later identified as Langerman, why he was at the property. Langerman stated he was lost, then took off running into the woods, the complaint stated. Langerman was carrying a black backpack and wearing a blue shirt. The female also ran east into the woods. There was forced entry to the residence and property from the residence had been placed outside the east facing doors. There were two sets of tracks going eastbound from the residence.
Deputies located Langerman driving a vehicle a short distance from the burglarized residence. Robert Lawrence Hamm and his roommate were also located inside the vehicle, the complaint stated. Hamm agreed to provide a statement. Hamm advised he was at his residence earlier when they received information about a vacant or abandoned residence. Langerman and two other individuals wanted to go to the residence and Hamm dropped them off. Hamm then went home. About three hours later Langerman called Hamm's roommate and told him they were ready to be picked up. They went to pick them up. They located Langerman walking on Crow Wing County Road 8 and Langerman took over driving. A short time later they saw a deputy go past and turn around and follow them. Langerman panicked and pulled into a residence on County Road 8. Hamm then got out and approached the residence. They didn't know anyone at the residence.
According to the probable cause statement filed against Hamm, the deputy followed the vehicle. A man went up to the home, knocked on the door and spoke with the homeowner and then walked away.

The deputy made contact with Hamm, who indicated he was looking for his friend "Jay." At this time, the homeowner indicated he did not know Hamm. The deputy conducted a pat search waited for back-up to arrive. Two more deputies arrived and a glass pipe and small plastic baggie containing a crystalline substance, which later tested positive for methamphetamine was taken from Hamm's pants pocket.
Hamm was arrested and charged with gross misdemeanor fifth-degree drug possession and petty misdemeanor drug paraphernalia.
Langerman was arrested and searched. He had a headlight, a glove and a leatherman tool on his person, the complaint stated. In the vehicle they located the backpack which had a craftsman knife, the other glove and a roll of plastic wrap.
