BACKUS-An 83-year-old Park Rapids man was injured Sunday in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 64 near Backus.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported the crash occurred at 1:53 p.m. Sunday between a 2008 Buick Lacrosse and a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado.

According to the crash report, both vehicles were northbound on Highway 64, when the Buick turned onto 12th Street Southwest and began making a U-turn, attempting to cross on County Road 19. The Buick then collided with the Silverado, which was pulling a boat and trailer. The boat and trailer disconnected from the Silverado, rolling and skidding across the road and coming to a rest on the northbound shoulder. The Silverado came to rest blocking the northbound lanes of Highway 64. The Buick stopped in the right turn lane of southbound Highway 64.

Harold Wesley Mowder, 83, of Park Rapids, was the driver of the Silverado. He was transported to Lakewood Health System in Staples with non-life-threatening injuries. Passenger Melinda Joy Crimmins, 49, of Park Rapids, was not injured.

Also not injured were the driver and passenger in the Buick: driver Beverly Ann Tiegen, 67, of Browerville, and passenger Chris Corwin Swensen, 60, of Pine River.
