BREEZY POINT-The 2018 State of Water Conference, hosted by Freshwater Society and Conservation Minnesota, will take place April 12-14 at Breezy Point Resort.

Like the 2016 conference in Alexandria, this biennial conference is expected to draw several hundred people to share tools, resources and connections around their local water resources.

This year's keynote presenter will be Amy Skoczlas Cole, who is spearheading Water Main, an initiative of American Public Media Group that focuses on water topics. Sen. Carrie Ruud of Breezy Point, chair of the Senate's Environment and Natural Resources Policy and Legacy Finance Committee, will provide the welcome remarks April 13.

The biennial State of Water Conference brings together community members, lake and river associations, and staff from water resource organizations and agencies to build relationships and learn about recent updates in the work of protecting and caring for our lakes, rivers, streams and wetlands. Speakers from around the state will be presenting on a number of topics about clean water.

"The State of Water Conferences in 2014 and 2016 showed us just how important it is to get people together to talk about issues relating to Minnesota's waters," stated Paul Austin of Conservation Minnesota, in a news release. "The ability to share best practices and network with other people doing similar work really helps make sure that we are all on the same page when it comes to protecting the waters of Minnesota that we all love."

To accommodate demand, this year's event has been expanded to three days, with the first day hosting some optional full- or half-day workshops before the conference formally kicks off on April 13. Registration is quickly filling; registration deadline is Saturday, March 31.
