After a tumultuous year, the only organization providing shelter services for homeless families in the Brainerd area closed permanently.

New Pathways lost its rental space and suspended services in March after disagreement between organization leaders and Tim Taylor, the organization’s landlord. The parties were at odds over utility costs and available space. Amid that disagreement, Taylor built a wall blocking clients’ access to bathrooms.

Although initial plans were to reinstate the program, New Pathways announced it would not return to Brainerd in October. Since that loss, community members are seeking solutions to fill the gap for neighbors in need.
