A 23-year-old Brainerd man, who is on probation and allegedly wanted by the Red Lake Tribal Police for an assault, faces criminal charges in Crow Wing County.

Dylan Jacob King was charged April 7 in district court in Brainerd with two counts of felony domestic assault.

According to the probable cause court document filed against King, Brainerd police were called at 8:19 p.m. April 5 to a Brainerd residence after a woman reported a fight between King and another man, both of whom she knew.

When police arrived, King said there was an argument and to take him to jail as he is on probation. When officers spoke with the woman, they learned she and the two men were watching “American Idol” when King became upset about not being able to listen to music he enjoys. The argument led into another argument about past issues. King became upset during the argument when the victim stood up and began arguing with King. King pushed him down on the bed, grabbed the lamp and attempted to hit him with it, the complaint stated. King then attempted to hit both of them with the lamp, but the lamp did not make contact with anyone. King then threw the lamp on the ground. The woman stated King had been staying with her for about three days because he is wanted by Red Lake Tribal Police for an assault.

According to court records, King has two prior delinquency adjudications for fifth-degree assault incidents in 2013 and 2014. An adjudicated delinquent is a youth found guilty by a judge of committing a delinquent act, as reported by the Department of Justice. In addition, he has two domestic violence related convictions from 2017 and 2018 and was convicted of violating a domestic abuse no contact order in 2017.
