2nd meeting scheduled for Unorganized residents

Due to an overwhelming number of residents that came to Thursday's meeting, a second meeting concerning the potential increase in township property taxes in Unorganized Territory will take place Wednesday.

Due to an overwhelming number of residents that came to Thursday's meeting, a second meeting concerning the potential increase in township property taxes in Unorganized Territory will take place Wednesday.

The meeting will be 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in meeting rooms 1 and 2 in the land services building, 322 Laurel St., Brainerd.

The subject of the meeting will be a projected shortfall in funds to continue road construction in Unorganized Territory, also known as the First Assessment District, by 2021. To address the shortfall, county officials are proposing property tax increases for First Assessment District residents over a 10-year period. Officials are seeking input from residents and answering questions about the issue.
