Crow Wing County Sheriff Scott Goddard announced Friday, Jan. 31, the arrest of three individuals for mail and package theft throughout Crow Wing County.
According to a news release, the suspects are Donald Robert Scott Jr., 35, Jared Bruce Borchert, 33, and Jennifer Ann Scott, 31, all of Emily.
“I am very pleased with the apprehension of these three suspects, the amount of mail they are responsible for stealing and the victims they violated is appalling,” Goddard stated in the release. “I cannot express enough appreciation regarding the work my investigators and the other law enforcement agencies have put into this investigation. This investigation will not conclude until all victims have been notified and their packages are returned. I’m asking those who have not yet reported mail or package theft to contact my office to speak with one of the investigators working on this case.”

Mail theft reports began in December and continued through the time of the suspects’ arrest on Jan. 29. Investigators received information from the Wright County Sheriff’s Office after the suspects were stopped in Wright County with mail in their possession from Crow Wing County addresses.
The suspects were released from custody before notification could be made to investigators, who traced the subjects back to the Y-Knot Ranch Hotel in Emily where they were renting a room. Crow Wing County Investigators were able to conduct a traffic stop on the three suspects and during that investigation, they located various pieces of mail inside the vehicle.
A mix of items, including W2 tax documents, credit cards, driver’s licenses, Amazon packages, and methamphetamine were all located in a search of the hotel, officials stated.
In all, investigators located mail and packages from 114 residences, mostly located within Crow Wing County. Mail from Cass, Aitkin and Itasca counties was also located during the searches.
