3 injured as driver loses control on icy highway

20-year-old in critical condition after crash north of Motley.

MOTLEY — Three people were injured Tuesday, Oct. 20, after the driver of a Honda Accord lost control on the slippery highway and struck a Ford truck, 5 miles north of Motley.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported the Honda and a Ford Escape were traveling south on Highway 64 and a Ford truck was driving north. The Honda lost control, entered the northbound lane, striking the Ford truck. The Ford Escape then struck the Honda.

The driver of the truck, Reid P. Mcfarlane, 63, Monticello, was transported to CentraCare-St. Cloud Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. He was in fair condition Wednesday, the hospital reported. The driver of the Honda, Arne Everett Kvaal, 20, of St. Cloud had life-threatening-injuries and also was transported to St. Cloud Hospital. He was in critical

condition Tuesday. The driver of the Ford Escape, David Lee Erickson, 49, Sartell, had non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Lakewood Health System in Staples.

The crash in Cass County was reported at 1:35 p.m. and the Minnesota Department of Transportation closed down the highway for about four hours to help authorities cleanup and investigate the crash.
