Three Brainerd High School students are among the winners of a National Merit Scholarship financed by U.S. colleges and universities.
About 3,200 scholarship winners were announced recently, with awards ranging from $500 to $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.
Nathanael Lockwood, 2017 BHS graduate, plans to attend the University of Minnesota and pursue a career in computer science. Adam Kleist, 2017 BHS graduate, plans to attend the University of Minnesota and pursue a career in linguistics. Matthew Greatens, 2017 BHS graduate, plans to attend North Dakota State University and pursue a career in mathematics.
This round of National Merit Scholarships includes scholarships sponsored by 182 higher education institutions, including 103 private and 79 public institutions in 44 states and the District of Columbia.
Greatens is the son of Todd and Barbara Greatens of Nisswa. Kleist is the son of Gary and Sandi Kleist of Brainerd. Lockwood is the son of Lee and Dawn Lockwood of Baxter.
