A boat took its last voyage on Gull Lake Saturday before bursting into flames at a busy public landing.

The Nisswa Fire Department was dispatched at 2:30 p.m. to the fire at the boat landing on Hole-in-the-Day Bay. Nisswa Fire Chief Richard Geike said about 10 firefighters responded to the fire, which was well underway upon arrival.

"There was not much left by the time we got there," Geike said.

There were no injuries from the fire, Geike said, although the boat is a total loss. The owners, a family visiting the lakes area, called in the fire, the cause of which is unknown.

"I'm glad the people got out in time," Geike said.

After extinguishing the fire, firefighters assisted the owners with returning the boat to the trailer. Crews were on the scene for an hour before clearing.
