A family had multiple garage fires early Saturday morning at their residence in Daggett Brook Township on Crow Wing County Road 45, about 10 miles southeast of Brainerd.
Pierz Fire Chief Brian Boser said firefighters responded to the call at 3 a.m. and upon arrival one of the garages was completely engulfed and a second smaller garage was on fire. Boser said both garages were destroyed, but firefighters were able to save the house about 15 feet away from one of the garages.
"The homeowners are very fortunate under the circumstances," Boser said of the proximity between the house and the garages. "The homeowners were in the house and were awaken by exploding noises. They saw the fire and called 911."
Boser did not have an estimated damage loss of the garages
Boser said the fire is under investigation, but it appears the cause of the fire was electrical.
Eighteen firefighters responded to the fire and were on scene for four hours. No mutual aid was called.
