CALLAWAY-Activist group Toxic Taters together with the Land Stewardship Project and Pesticide Action Network on Monday granted an extension to Minnesota Department of Natural Resources on the environmentalists' petition for an environmental assessment on RD Offutt's expansion into the Pineland Sands Aquifer.

During the 30 days of the temporary stay, the DNR will not be allowed to grant any new irrigation permits to potato producer RD Offutt, a Toxic Taters release said Monday.

The environmentalists will enter into negotiations with RD Offutt and the DNR to discuss the scope of a separate proposed DNR study on the impacts of Offutt's expansion, the release said.

"RD Offutt and the DNR have outlined a taxpayer-funded study that they would like to use instead of the existing environmental review process," the release said.
