PELICAN LAKE -- A 73-year-old Pequot Lakes man is missing on Pelican Lake after his boat was found unoccupied with the trolling motor running.

Sgt. Brad Thesing of the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office reported a search operation continued as of 11:15 p.m. Monday, July 15, with boat patrol using lights to look for the missing boater. A 911 caller reported the man was last seen at 9 p.m. by another boater. The two, who know one another, were on the lake in two separate boats. At 9:30 p.m., the second boater located the missing man’s pontoon, trolling motor running.

Thesing said boat patrol would continue searching tonight as long as possible with lights and would resume the search in the morning, coordinating with both the drone and dive teams.

UPDATE: A previous version of this story stated the man went missing on Pelican Lake. The incident actually occurred on Little Pelican Lake. The Dispatch regrets the error.
