41 indicted for multi-state drug trafficking ring

MINNEAPOLIS - U.S. District Attorney Andrew Luger announced Thursday the indictment of 41 members of a multi-state drug trafficking ring that targeted Native American lands for the sales of heroin and prescription drugs.

The ring, headed by Omar Sharif Beasley, allegedly moved weapons and drugs from Detroit and Chicago through Minneapolis and sold heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, oxycodone and other drugs in northern Minnesota and North Dakota, primarily on Red Lake and White Earth Indian Reservations.

MINNEAPOLIS - U.S. District Attorney Andrew Luger announced Thursday the indictment of 41 members of a multi-state drug trafficking ring that targeted Native American lands for the sales of heroin and prescription drugs.

The ring, headed by Omar Sharif Beasley, allegedly moved weapons and drugs from Detroit and Chicago through Minneapolis and sold heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, oxycodone and other drugs in northern Minnesota and North Dakota, primarily on Red Lake and White Earth Indian Reservations.

“The indictment of the Beasley drug trafficking organization is emblematic of our commitmt to combatting heroin trafficking in Minnesota,” Luger said in a statement. “These defendants, led by Omar Beasley, represented the most significant source of heroin in Indian Country.”

Dan Moren, Drug Enforcement Administration special agent in charge of the sting, said 35 of the 41 indicted have been arrested across five states. He said to date, law enforcement has seized about 2 kilograms of heroin, 1 kilogram of cocaine and hundreds of prescription pain pills from Beasley operations.
