Brainerd man buried in avalanche dies in New Mexico hospital

Wassermann named Pequot Lakes Chamber director

Katie Wasserman

Katie Wassermann was named director of the Pequot Lakes Chamber of Commerce, effective Nov. 1.

Wassermann served as the interim director since June and was promoted to this permanent leadership position.

"I'm very excited to announce Katie's promotion to this important role, serving and strengthening the business community in the Pequot Lakes area," Matt Kilian, president of the Brainerd Lakes Chamber of Commerce, said in an email. "Katie thrives when she is creating ideas, building partnerships and leading new projects. Our goals are to establish a positive community identity, support our businesses, attract new customers and create economic opportunities for everyone."

An Alabama native, Wassermann began working for the chamber, city of Pequot Lakes and the Pequot Lakes School District in April as the communications manager. She moved to Minnesota 12 years ago and spent nine of those years designing clothing and accessories for Target Corp. in Minneapolis.

She now lives in Breezy Point with her husband, Mark; son, JP; and their dog, Ruger. She served on the Early Childhood Advisory Board for the Pequot Lakes School District, and was recently named secretary of the Greater Pequot Lakes Area Community Foundation board of directors. She was involved with the Thriving Communities Initiative and created the Heart of the Good Life branding.

"I look forward to continuing the positive momentum and connectedness started by my predecessor, Chris Monroe, who had to resign due to health reasons," Wassermann said. "I fell in love with Pequot Lakes one summer visiting family and friends, but I'm one of those rare people who also likes the cold. The amazing business community, great schools, natural beauty and friendly people are what led us here, and we have only grown to love this area more and more every day."
