Cass County Atlas meeting set March 6
Cass County Environmental Services Department, in conjunction with the Cass Soil and Water Conservation District, will host a presentation by the Minnesota Geological Survey to present the Cass County Geologic Atlas-Part A.
This presentation, open to anyone with an interest in Cass County geology, soils and other geologic and hydrologic features, will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, in the board meeting room at the county Land Department Building in Backus.
Part A was recently published by the Minnesota Geological Survey. Part A of this survey includes the water-well database and scaled geological maps showing properties and distribution of the sediments and rock at the surface and subsurface.
Part B, to be completed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, will include maps of water levels in aquifers, direction of groundwater flow, water chemistry and sensitivity to pollution.
In addition to the presentation of the project by the Geological Survey, a representative of the DNR will illustrate the highlights of their upcoming work on groundwater hydrology.
Attendees will be presented with a copy of the Part A maps showing the location and topography of geological features in Cass County at no charge. Those unable to attend may contact the office for copies of the Part A mapping.
