Bids for the Brainerd School District's Harrison Elementary School project will open 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, in the boardroom at the Washington Educational Services Building.
Bids to build the new elementary school in Baxter will open 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 9.
A quorum of school board members may be present at both meetings, so the public is invited to attend.
Harrison Elementary will get a new entrance on Norwood Street on the north side of the building, with the current Oak Street entrance to be used primarily as an exit. With plans to add on to the building, designs for the three-story school include a learning commons for each grade level, a new gymnasium, a media center and a bigger cafeteria.
The project is estimated at $19 million.
With the current Baxter Elementary School being transformed into an early childhood center, a new elementary building is planned for Jasperwood Drive, near Forestview Middle School, in Baxter. The two-story, five-section building for kindergarten through fourth grade will be able to accommodate 625 students. Each grade will have a learning commons area surrounded by five classrooms, and the building will include a music room and art/science/technology space built in conjunction with a media center.
The project is estimated to cost $26.2 million.
