Man blows his hand off: Hospital states he's in serious condition
EMILY—A 42-year-old Fifty Lakes man was in serious condition Monday, May 13, at St. Cloud Hospital after blowing his hand off with homemade explosives at an Emily residence.
The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office was called at 5 p.m. Sunday to the incident on the 42000 block of Crow Wing County Road 136, Emily. Upon arrival at the scene, deputies discovered a man, identified as James Fredrick Cummings, had suffered extensive injuries to his left hand. Deputies provided first aid to Cummings until ambulance personnel arrived on scene. Cummings was airlifted by Life Link III to St. Cloud Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
While on scene, deputies discovered additional explosive material around the yard and residence. The house and property were secured and the Crow Wing County Bomb Squad was called to process the scene.
The Crosslake Police Department also assisted the sheriff's office on scene.
