With the Military: Hastings headed to Air Force Academy; Henry graduates basic training
Two area high school graduates continue to advance with their military goals.
• 2019 Brainerd High School graduate Nick Hastings has received an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy for the class graduating in 2023.
Appointments to the Air Force Academy are extremely competitive, with more than 10,000 students applying each year. Applicants must not only excel in academics, athletics, leadership and service, they must also secure a nomination from a member of Congress, the vice president or the president of the United States. This year, of the more than 10,000 applicants, 1,150 were appointed to enter the academy.
At the end of four years, Hastings will have earned a Bachelor of Science in his choice of 27 majors and will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S.
