There will be no school for students in the Brainerd School District starting Monday, March 16.
Brainerd Superintendent Laine Larson sent out an email to all the families in the school district just after noon Sunday.
“This morning, members of the district administrative team, school board and I gathered to listen to Governor Walz's statement about state-wide school closures beginning Wednesday, March 18," Larson stated. "After receiving this information, I have decided to close all Brainerd Public Schools on Monday, March 16 and Tuesday, March 17. There will be no public access to facilities at this time. Staff are expected to follow the snow day protocol for reporting to work on Monday and Tuesday.
“We know you have many questions about the education of our nearly 7,000 students and the jobs of our 1,200 employees during this unusual time. This group of professionals and I are working tirelessly to answer those questions. Please watch our district website, social media channels and your email for the details and frequent updates as to how we will operate during this closure.
“In the meantime, please take some time at home with your family. Remember to wash your hands and cover coughs and sneezes. We will get through this challenging time together. “
In a 10 a.m. news conference Sunday, Walz stated statewide schools will be closed through March 27 and would be reevaluated at that time should a longer term closure be needed.
