Let the snowplow naming begin — again.
Following in the footsteps of the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the city of Brainerd is now accepting name suggestions for their snowplows and other snow removal equipment.
Community members can visit bit.ly/2N0c1bd to see the eight pieces of equipment that will be named next winter and suggest names. The online survey will be open until noon March 26.
Names will be parsed, and the public will then be able to vote on their favorites. Winners will be announced in June, and each piece of equipment will get a decal with its new name.
City council members agreed to the idea brought forth at their last meeting, deciding it would be a fun and inexpensive community project, after MnDOT’s similar initiative garnered so much interest.
More than 24,000 names were submitted for MnDOT’s naming contest, with over 110,000 votes cast to narrow down the final 50 to eight — one for each district. The plow in District 3, where Brainerd is located, will be named Darth Blader. The entry earning the most votes was Plowy McPlowface, which will be the name for the plow in the metro district.
