WORTHINGTON - About 7,500 three-week-old turkeys were lost in a turkey farm fire near Worthington early Tuesday morning.

The nearby Round Lake Fire Department was dispatched at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday to a farm owned by Tim Meyer and Jeff Barber to the fire that’s believed to have been triggered by an electrical problem.

Round Lake fire chief Mike Smith said one of the farm’s barns was fully engulfed and flames bursting out on top of the roof when they arrived.

The Worthington, Bigelow and Brewster fire departments also assisted at the scene. Smith estimated that there were between 40 to 50 firefighters battling the blaze during windy conditions with falling temperatures and light snow.
