A group of about 40 people and a couple of support vehicles made their way along Highway 371 on Friday, Aug. 13, between Pequot Lakes and Brainerd as part of the Treaty People Walk for Water.
The Treaty People Walk for Water is a two-week walk that started Aug. 7 at Coffee Pot Landing near Itasca State Park. According to the stopline3.org site, the group is headed to the state Capitol to "tell President Biden to step in and direct the Army Corps to cancel this pipeline's permits."
Also from the website, the organization claims: "Enbridge is currently violating 21 river crossings, and hundreds of waterways across so called Minnesota. In the style of walks led by the American Indian Movement (AIM), we ask you JOIN US in a prayerful walk in solidarity with Mississippi River, "Nibi" (water), and to #HonortheTreaties that all of our ancestors signed."
The group expects to reach the Capitol Aug. 25.
