The seventh annual Race for Grace will be held at 10 am. Sunday, May 27, at Forestview Middle School in Baxter.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The family friendly 5-kilometer run/walk will start and end at Forestview, near the tennis courts. Children's activities, including bouncy houses, face-painting, fire truck, etc will open around 9 a.m.
The Race for Grace honors the memory of baby Grace Elizabeth Lee, who passed away a week before her first birthday in May of 2011. Memorial Day weekend is the weekend Grace was born to Jake and Alyssa (Altrichter) Lee, the weekend she left them at the age of 1, and the weekend that will forever honor her memory.
Through sponsorships and participation of nearly 400 friends and family over the past six years, the Race for Grace has donated more than $30,000 to the favorite charities of Jake and Alyssa Lee. These include The Ronald McDonald House, Faith's Lodge, Casa de Fe and the Brighter Days Foundation.
This year, proceeds of the race will again be donated to The Brighter Days Foundation, a local foundation with a mission to help seriously and chronically ill children and their families by surprising them with meaningful gifts and/or opportunities to brighten their day. For more information, visit www.brighterdaysfoundation.org .
Register for the Race for Grace online at www.raceforgracemn.com . Email inquiries to firstname.lastname@example.org . Several photos and videos are available on the website and the Race for Grace Facebook page.
Registration is open until the time of the Race, but the early registration is encouraged to guarantee receiving a T-shirt.
Anyone unable to attend the Race but wishing to donate to this cause may contribute to Grace's nonprofit fund through the Brainerd Lakes Area Community Foundation. www.communitygiving.org/brainerd . The tax deductible donation to the Grace Lee Fund will assist other families who have experienced the pain of losing a child; or are dealing with a critical childhood illness.
