Eight people were injured - one seriously - in a two-vehicle broadside crash reported at 11:02 p.m. Saturday on Highway 371 at State Park Road south of Brainerd, reported the Minnesota State Patrol.
According to reports a GMC Sierra, driven by John J. Barnes, 44, Little Falls, was traveling southbound on Highway 371, when a Ford Taurus, driven by Nathan C. Liter, 18, Eden Valley, crossed its immediate path on westbound State Park Road causing a broadside collision. Liter was taken to Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. Liter had two passengers: Merrick M. Shockey, Eden Valley, had no apparent injuries and McKayla R. Shockey, 20, Eden Valley, was seriously injured and taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.
Barnes had five passengers, his wife and four children. Barnes was taken to Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. His spouse, Kimberly M. Barnes, 33, had non-life threatening injuries and was taken to an unknown hospital.
Ella, 13, Simon, 7, Katelyn, 4, and Meghan, 3, all were reported to have non-life threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital in Brainerd.
The roads were wet at the time of the crash when a heavy thunderstorm was moving across the Brainerd lakes area.
