An 85-year-old Brainerd man peacefully surrendered to law enforcement officers Wednesday afternoon following a report of a suicidal male possibly with a gun, Brainerd Police Deputy Chief Mike Bestul said.
Brainerd Police responded to the call at 2:55 p.m. on the 900 block of Mill Avenue in northeast Brainerd. Bestul said when officers arrived they made contact with the adult male and communication was made. The man agreed to surrender without incident. He was taken into custody at 3:31 p.m. and was transported by North Memorial Ambulance to Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd to have a medical evaluation.
Bestul said officers did not locate any firearms.
The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office assisted Brainerd Police at the scene.
Law enforcement officers with guns in hand were seen off Mill Avenue and in the alley behind the residence during the incident as a precaution, as it was unknown if the male had a firearm.
