Absentee ballots available Friday

Crow Wing County auditor-treasurer Laureen Borden announced that absentee ballots for the Nov. 4 general election will be available beginning Friday.

Crow Wing County auditor-treasurer Laureen Borden announced that absentee ballots for the Nov. 4 general election will be available beginning Friday.

New legislation has changed absentee balloting rules to allow any voter to cast an absentee ballot prior to election day.

"Voters no longer need an excuse to vote by absentee ballot," Borden said. "All voters can choose to cast their ballot either at the polls or before election day at their convenience."

Absentee ballot applications are available by visiting the Crow Wing County website at www.crowwing.us/absentee . Voters may choose to apply online, or download and mail an application to the auditor-treasurer's office. Additionally, the auditor-treasurer's office will be open for in-person absentee voting from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday-Friday; Thursday, Oct. 30 until 7 p.m., as well as 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov.1.

Voters who choose to vote by absentee ballot will need to complete an application prior to receiving a ballot even if they vote in person. Voters will need to provide either their Minnesota driver's license or state ID number, or the last four digits of their social security number to apply for a ballot. Those voters who opt to vote in person should plan to allow at least 15 minutes or more for the process, depending on the volume of voters at that time.
